Hollywood: Kickin’ it at the Pikey

The Pikey

The Pikey opened earlier this year, taking over the old Coach and Horses space. It’s a gastropub and the drinks were conceived by Damian Windsor of the Roger Room.

I finally had a chance to visit on my birthday couple of weeks ago. I hadn’t heard much about the Pikey after the initial buzz so I was pleased to see it was fairly packed on a Tuesday night.

Ginger Minge

After reviewing the menu, I immediately went for the Ginger Minge (Famous Grouse Scotch, ginger, lemon, ginger beer). Woah, Sally it was really gingery- just the way I like it. The ginger tasted fresh and it was a great drink to end my night. Although others may think this is a great starter drink. Either way, if you love ginger, this is a ginger-tastic libation for you.

hello, gnomey

I’ll have to come back to try the food. I am always hunting for some good fish and chips.  I also would like to try Geezer (Old Overholt, Vida mezcal, old fashioned bitters, cinnamon, flamed orange) or The Stanley (Starr African rum, Pimms #1, basil, lemon).

The Guvnor (Beefeater gin, sloe gin, lemon, egg whites, Angostura bitters) sounded interesting to me since it’s served on the rocks. I usually see these types of sours served up.

Or you could always pay homage to the old Coach & Horses with their eponymous drink; a shot of Ancient Age bourbon and a PBR tall boy.
