With the departure of bar manager Nick Meyer who took on a bigger role in the Julian Cox beverage consulting empire, the ladies have been running the show at the bar at Sotto. Co bar managers Brynn Smith and Ingrid Nelson with Julian and Nick’s input have created a varied drinks list that has a little bit of something for everyone.
I popped in for a drink or two after the Culinary Camp dinner at the Four Seasons Los Angeles at Beverly Hills and decided on a whiskey drink to start. I love the peachy drinks around town and Sotto has a lovely one called Life’s a Peach that has a bit of a bounce due to the fizz from Prosecco. Very nice on a warm night like the ones LA has been having.

You can’t stop the Sotto pops! There are a couple of new ones on the list including Pimm Pimm Cherry. If you love Pimm’s, give this slightly tart but very refreshing drink a try. Plus, it’s just so darn cute.

Can’t keep drinking without a snack. Loved the fava bean hummus like dip with Swiss chard. The chips were also amazing with the dip.
One of the chefs at Sotto, Zach Pollack, loves Bormio in Italy so this drink is named after him. An American in Bormio combines American whiskey with Italian elements like Cocchi Americano and one of my fave amari, Amaro Braulio.

The Tax Return is a twist on the classic, Income Tax. Riffing on the gin cocktail, Sotto upgraded the drink with Sheep Dip Scotch. I really liked this version because it’s so aromatic and the perfect after-dinner drink.

I was at Sotto late enough to catch the family meal drink that night. Brynn was so excited to make Angostura vanilla milkshakes for the staff. It was rich and creamy with everyone’s favorite bitters, Ango.
Next time I’m at Sotto, I’m getting the barrel-aged Clover Club!
