2013 was a great year for Brittini Rae Peterson. She was named Eater LA’s 2013 Bartender of the Year and also won the Luxardo Cup competition last year. Now she’s won the Los Angeles Pavan Sangria Challenge. She goes on to compete in the finals tonight with the finalists from San Francisco, Miami and New York as well as a wildcard chosen from the Pavan’s Facebook page. The winner of the final competition wins a vacation for two to any destination of their choice.
Brittini Rae will be submitting her Bora Bora inspired White Lagoon Sangria for the finals, her LA winning recipe.
White Lagoon Sangria
- 1.5 oz Pavan Liqueur
- 0.75 oz banana liqueur
- 1 oz coconut milk
- .5 oz passion fruit syrup
- .5 oz vanilla syrup
- .5 oz lemon juice
- 1 oz pineapple juice
Shake all ingredients with ice and strain into glass with fresh ice. Garnish with mint.
LA will also be sending Nathaniel Fletcher to the finals. He was the Pavan Wildcard winner as voted on the Pavan fan page.
Here’s Nate’s sangria as inspired by Verona, Italy.
Star-Crossed Sangria
- 1 ½ oz Pavan Liqueur
- 1 oz Soave Wine
- 1 oz Pink grapefruit Juice
- ½ oz Rose petal syrup
- ¼ oz Luxardo maraschino liqueur
- ¼ cup Muddled quince
Muddle quince to a pulp. Add grapefruit juice, rose syrup, maraschino and shake with ice briskly 4-5 seconds. Prepare glass (or pitcher) with grapefruit slices, quince slicers, rose petals, Luxardo maraschino cherries and ice. pour the Soave wine and Pavan into the glass then strain in the shaken ingredients. Garnish top with a single rose through the center of a star cut quince slice.
The other three competitors will be Lindsay Matteson from NYC’s Amor y Amargo featuring her sangria inspired by Morocco, Cricket Nelson from Miami’s Broken shaker with an Indian inspired sangria and Comstock Saloon’s Jared Anderson in San Francisco. His sangria was inspired by Iceland.
